As you may already have been aware -- hemorrhoids appear in varied shapes and sizes, and how extreme they are also can differ greatly from case to case. Due to this, there is a method to differentiate between the totally different degrees of hemorrhoids. By learning and understanding how mild or severe hemorrhoids could be, you'll appreciate just how much of a distinction there is!
Before we jump into that, there are a few things that you should be aware of though. First, different 'degrees' of hemorrhoids would only apply to internal hemorrhoids (i.e. those that have formed inside the rectum). External hemorrhoids (as yet) do not really have a formal system to measure how extreme they might be, and the distinction should be fairly clear.
More importantly however, there is one term that you must know about, and that is 'prolapsed hemorrhoids'.
If you've heard of this before, that's great, but in case you have not then you should learn that prolapsed hemorrhoids are basically just internal hemorrhoids that have developed and been pushed outside the anus itself. Due to this, they look like growths extending from the anus itself, and they could bleed and be very painful from time to time.
Anyway, now that we've covered that, listed here are the four degrees of internal hemorrhoids:
1. Grade 1
As far as hemorrhoids go, these are the mildest and consist of hemorrhoids that don't prolapse. That means that they remain as internal hemorrhoids but may still bleed when irritated. Generally speaking, the bulk of hemorrhoids are within this grade, and a few could even pass completely unnoticed by people who suffer from it.
2. Grade 2
In contrast to Grade 1, Grade 2 hemorrhoids do prolapse, although they reduce in size fairly quickly afterwards. So although may have a prolapsed hemorrhoid for a while, it will shrink and reduce in size until it practically isn't there at all.
3. Grade 3
Next in line will be the variety of hemorrhoids that do prolapse, but don't reduce immediately. Actually, they must be 'manually' reduced, through different procedures, treatments, and other things. All said and done, this is certainly annoying as it would require you to tackle the hemorrhoid as soon as possible.
4. Grade 4
Last, but certainly not least, is probably the most severe kind of hemorrhoid -- and this is of the sort that cannot be manually reduced. Sadly, this leaves you with few options, and it's definitely tedious... to say the least.
Do you see how the different degrees of hemorrhoids could vary greatly? Being aware of the various types of hemorrhoids which are out there, and improving your understanding in general will certainly be of help to you as you fight your own hemorrhoids!
Useful Description Of External Hemorrhoids
This is a discussion of the symptoms and progression of external hemorrhoids. Not all external hemorrhoids are correctly diagnosed and many are actually distended internal hemorrhoids. The true external hemorrhoid has its source in the exterior of the anal verge.
A Briefing On Internal Hemorrhoids
Hemorrhoids are anatomically defined as, "the blood vessel-filled tissue at the meeting of the anus and the rectum." Internal hemorrhoids are not life threatening or dangerous. Mild hemorrhoid symptoms usually resolve within a few days.
