The Reason Why Getting A Hummer Now Can Prove To Be A Fantastic Investment In The Future.

The Hummer was introduced to the consumer market by GM and it rapidly gained popularity due, partly, to being an intense vehicle that could handle almost any type of landscape. Granted the H2 and Hummer H3 was no where near as good as the first Hummer when going off road but these models still came across a marketplace as they where large, luxurious and less expensive than the H1. They where also converted into things like limos, something that further established them as something special in the heads of movie stars and the average Joe alike. Then Hummer offered the Hummer HX concept that took it all to an entirely new level. The new smooth futuristic design made a lot of men and women including myself want one. We all waited to see the car go into production

Then came the credit crunch that hit American car car companies hard and none perhaps harder than GM. In an attempt to cut the large losses the company were suffering from it was decided to reduce the product line and sell or close down certain brand names. Hummer was one of those brand names. GM initially found a Chinese buyer for the hummer brand but the deal was not approved by the government and GM decided to close down Hummer production in the shortage of a buyer. With that decision they effectively killed the chances of us seeing the Hummer HX on the roads unless someone resumes manufacturing and dust of the designs at a later date. This also meant that it is no longer possible to buy a new hummer as none are being manufactured. Well not for civilian use anyway. It is still possible to get military surplus Hummers.

Traditionally the hummer has never ever been known as an economical vehicle. They were expensive to buy and were real gas guzzlers. Add to this that the second hand value wasn't great and it is easy to see how hummers didn't make great investments. However now when the production has been shut down all that could change. Iconic cars tend to see an increased second hand value when production ended and the Hummer is an Iconic car. We might not have seen very much of an effect on the second hand value of hummers due to this yet but we are likely to see it in a couple of years and the second hand value of a hummer is in other words likely to start going up in a few years. Buying an used Hummer now might therefore turn out to be a good investment. Granted they are still gas guzzlers and with the high gasoline prices they might still be bad investments if you intend to drive them while waiting for the second hand value to start going up, but at the very least you can obtain some of the money you spent on gas back when you sell it and in the meantime you can enjoy the pleasure of driving a truly iconic vehicle.

It is however important to remember, as with all investments, there are no sure bets and there is no assurance that the second hand value will go up. It just seems likely due to reasons outlined above. It is however possible that the environmental movement and hybrid cars will make large cars less attractive to everyone. Something that could force the second hand values down.
