A new lumbar support seating system produced for underground mine employees working loaders and haul trucks is resulting in reduced incidents and also fatigue.
Perth-based Modern Motor Trimmers (MMT), which specialises in suspension seats and seating goods to the mining sector, has spent over five-years building the pneumatically-operated twin air lumbar seat support.
The two-stage lumbar support system is built-into the backrest of the premium-quality T back seats. This uses the air supply from the seat's built-in air compressor or the machine's air supply to completely inflate, supporting the operator's lumbar location and creating a buffer against shock and jarring.
MMT is setting up the lumbar system into the premium quality ISRI seating selection, at present the sole product on the market to own a flexible back rest that may be angled for increased operator comfort and support.
Managing Director Garry Spouge, who founded MMT in 1992, said the company had polished and began to provide the innovative seating product in the previous twelve months, as demand for safer and more comfortable seating technology in the underground mining sector had grown.
